Huntington Board School. York. England.
Board schools were established in Great Britain during the late 19th century and were maintained by local taxes and controlled by a locally elected school board.
The schoolβs log book shows, presumably on the first day of opening July 16 1877 that βI, Nathan Bellerby, opened the school this morning with 49 scholars, of these, 12 can do simple arithmetic; four simple subtraction and one compound addition; the rest can do nothing more than make some figures and some of them, not even that, though eight or nine years of age.β
The building is now used as a community centre.
Sorry to all of the people who had to flee book Twitter because of Elon. I can simulate it for you right here though!
